WP1: PROJECT MANAGEMENT
WP1 comprises of project management and administrative activities. These activities run throughout the course of the project and include monitoring project progress, managing project work flow, organising internal meetings, ensuring efficient communication between project partners developing an advanced IPR strategy for project results.

WP2: BACKGROUND, FRAMEWORK AND MARKET
Within WP2 background will be gathered on the European biomass boiler, biomass fuel and housing markets. This background will include an analysis of legislative context, recent technological advances as well as market shifts and political developments pertinent to the biomass heating industry. The results of WP2 will feed into a range of subsequent work packages, including WP3 (Monitoring methods) and will guide emissions monitoring work, giving clear goals based on what is current, relevant and achievable.

WP3: MONITORING METHODS
WP3 will see the development of a set of methods for demonstrating and monitoring the efficiency and the emissions of boilers tested in the laboratory and in the field (WP 4, 5 and 6). The monitoring methodology will be informed by the results of WP2 and it will be developed and refined throughout the project. WP3 will ensure that demonstration in WP4, WP5 and WP6 proceeds in an acceptable fashion, providing useful feedback to ensure demonstration products are optimised to the needs and opportunities present in the market.

WP4: DEMONSTRATION OF COMPONENTS
WP4 will see the intensive demonstration and optimisation of 23 heating systems (based on 10 innovative heating concepts) over one heat season and of 16 boilers in a second heat season. This demonstration will take place on test in the laboratories of project partners using typical biomass fuels from their region. Evaluation of the heating system performance will be performed in accordance with the Monitoring Methodology defined in WP3. Adaptations and improvements will be made to the systems in accordance with WP7.

WP5: DEMONSTRATION OF SYSTEM SOLUTIONS
WP5 comprises the intense field demonstration of 24 heating systems installed across the project target markets. Nine boilers will be installed in low energy prefabricated houses and a further 15 boilers will be installed in refurbishment and boiler exchange settings. The specification of the boiler systems demonstrated in WP5 will be defined by the analysis provided within WP2 and the results of the system design and optimisation activities conducted in WP4. The systems installed in WP5 will be intensively analysed and evaluated by BioMaxEff’s industry and scientific partners according to the monitoring methodology established in WP3. On-going system improvements and adaptations will be made in accordance with WP7.

WP6: MONITORING OF SYSTEM SOLUTIONS
WP6 will see the wide scale deployment and demonstration the heating systems demonstrated in WP’s 4 and 5. This demonstration will be executed according to the monitoring and evaluation methods developed in WP3. Around 1,920 sold boilers will be monitored across Spain, Greece, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany and Denmark. In addition, 280 units will be monitored more tightly with at least 50% of this number being monitored for 2 heating seasons. This will result in 420 monitored heating seasons within the project. The performance and operation data collected will be validated and conclusions based on the overall project aims will be derived. This data will also be used to further improve the heating system solutions demonstrated and techno economic evaluation will be carried out.

WP7: ACCOMPANYING RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF KEY TECHNOLOGY AND SYSTEM SOLUTIONS
WP7 comprises of research and development activities. This WP will run concurrently with WP’s 4, 5 and 6. It will allow the project’s scientific partners to review the results generated in these WP’s and then further adapt and improve the technology and system solutions in order to optimize system performances.

WP8: ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
WP8 will generate an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the innovative boilers developed and tested during the project. This WP will generate a number of outputs including an Emission Factors database, LCA and LCC analyses of the heating systems demonstrated, air quality maps.

Within WP9 a strategy will be developed and implemented to ensure that the project results are widely and effectively disseminated to key audiences. This will include presentations at European exhibitions and conference as well as the publication of scientific papers and articles. BioMaxEff progress and results will also be presented at four Workshop events. In addition to this, WP9 will supervise the delivery of the project website and an intranet facility to support internal communication. IPR management will also be performed within this WP.
